KANPUR: Additional district and sessions judge (first) on Wednesday convicted a woman Rajda, accused of her husband‘s murder, to life imprisonment. She was allegedly having an affair withanother man. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on her.
The court acquitted her paramour Chhotu alias Tehsim, resident of , Lucknow for want of evidence.

According to KK Shukla, special prosecuting officer (SPO), Santosh alias Pappu, resident of Munshi Purwa under Babupurwa police circle, was married to Rajda of Dhakanapurwa. The couple used to live in a rented accommodation. Rajda allegedly an affair with her cousin Chhotu alias Tehsim, and her affair continued even after four years of her marriage.

After her love affair was exposed, senior persons of her family had instructed her not to have any with Chhotu in future. But Chhotu and Rajda continued to meet. On January 9, 2015, Santosh was murdered in the night. Next morning , when Rajda started weeping, her neigbour Kalludeen informed Santosh‘s brother about the incident .

The deceased‘s brother lodged a report against Rajda and Chhotu. Presenting his case before the court, the SPO stated that on January 9, 2015, Chhotu visited Rajda‘s house, and the two strangulated Santosh by his muffler. Chhotu, after killing him, returned to Lucknow in the night. Since there was no evidence against him, the court acquitted him for want of evidence, but sentenced Rajda for killing her husband.
