Truck runs over biker near Amausi, driver held

LUCKNOW: A 35-year old man was killed when his bike skidded in a and he fell on the road and was run over by a speeding truck near Amausi airport in Sarojininagar police station area on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased, identified as Dev Mangal Shahi, was a worker in NCC Limited company which is involved in terminal construction near Amausi airport.

The accident occurred at around 1.30 pm when Dev was going to Chillava market near Amausi airport.

Dev’s bike slipped as he drove over a pothole and fell off on the road. A speeding truck coming from Kanpur ran over him.

A crowd gathered on the spot and informed police.

“When police reached the spot, Dev Mangal Shahi was bleeding profusely. He was rushed to Lok Bandhu hospital where he was declared brought dead by doctors,” said Sarojininagar police station, SHO Ram Soorat Sonkar.

“The 35-year old was wearing a helmet but even his helmet was crushed when the truck ran over him,” he added.

Dev Mangal, was a native of and used to live on rent in Gomtinagar.

The truck driver, identified as (55), fled from the spot but was arrested by police later in the day. The truck, carrying cooking gas cylinders, was seized by police.

An FIR was registered against the truck driver for rash driving, causing death by negligence and causing grievous hurt by the act of endangering life.

The body was sent for postmortem.
