SAMBALPUR: A 44-year-old teacher, who would give tuitions in Deogarh district, was on Wednesday arrested on charges of sexually assaulting five minor girls. The survivors, between 8 and 12 years of age, would go to him for tuitions.
The accused have been identified by police as Rabindra Sahu under the police limits in Deogarh district.
Police said the accused would give tuitions to students of Classes 1 to VII in his village. On the pretext of tuition, he would allegedly take the girls to a different room one after another and sexually abusing them.
The matter came to light after parents of two girls, both sisters, who would take tuitions from him, lodged a complaint with the Kundheigola police station in this regard on Tuesday.
Police said the duo had reportedly told their parents about the tuition teacher a few months ago. Following that, they had stopped the two from going to him. However, the accused Rabindra met the mother of the two on Monday and enquired about why she was not allowing her daughters to come to him. He also threatened their mother saying that he would make the obscene photographs of her daughters viral. Subsequently, the parents of the victim lodged a complaint with the Kudheigola police station on Tuesday. It was only after this that the on three other minor girls also came to the fore.
Ratnakara Mallik, inspector in-charge of Kundheigola police station, said, “The accused has been arrested. The five minor girls have been sent for medical examination. Their reports are awaited.”
