Rajkot: Surendranagar city turned into a fortress ahead of the state level Independence Day celebration on Wednesday with over 4,000 security personnel including top level cops being deployed there.
Gujarat Governor OP Kohli and chief minsiter Vijay Rupani along with senior government officials arrived in Surendranagar on Tuesday to attend series of functions. The Independence Day function will be held at police headquarters opposite district superintendents office.
Since last one month the district officials have been working on making the city spotlessly clean. All the government buildings have been lit up with series of LED lightings in rainbow colours.
Since Tuesday morning the Governor and CM have been attending various functions like youth conference in Vadhwan and women’s seminar in Chotila.
The governor also hosted the ‘At Home’ programme at the police parade ground. A cultural programme was also held later on Tuesday evening.
The district authorities have also opened up 2.5km stretch of the riverfront along Bhogavo river for the people from Tuesday.
