Stolen bike, phones and dirhams seized; teenager nabbed

Rajkot: The lure of a lavish lifestyle made a minor an ace at breaking into homes. He was nabbed from near the post office on Junction Road in Rajkot on Friday night. According to police, the teenager was arrested after police received a tip-off about him coming near the post office on a stolen bike.
“The boy could not produce ownership documents of the motorcycle and when he was interrogated later he confessed to having stolen the motorcycle from Gondal. He also confessed to having committed burglaries at four houses,” said B M Kataria, Pradyumannagar police station inspector.

Police said the boy was an expert at breaking into homes. He would carry out a recce of locked houses in the day and commit thefts at night.

“He would use an iron rod to prise open locks to gain entry. Apart from the motorcycle, we recovered a pair of gold earrings, eight mobile phones, 540 dirhams and Rs 20,000 cash. He confessed to having committed four thefts in the jurisdictions of Pradyumannagar, University, Malaviyanagar and Gondal police stations,” added Kataria. The boy told cops he resorted to crime to fund his lavish lifestyle.
