Sisodia let off in defamation case by teacher

NEW DELHI: Deputy chief minister Manish , who also heads the Delhi education ministry, was recently absolved in a defamation case filed by a government teacher over his “illegal termination”, and a related news report on the matter. The court observed that public servants take several decisions that sometimes are wrong and are published in newspapers, but that does not mean the official is personally liable for his actions.
The complainant alleged that he was terminated by Sisodia after the latter‘s surprise visit at a government school on May 15, 2016. During his visit, the deputy CM interacted with a few students, who complained of misconduct against the teacher in his absence. Later, Sisodia reportedly chaired a meeting, which resulted in the termination of , the complainant. The development caught the attention of a newspaper, which published a report of Singh‘s termination. Therefore, the complainant claimed that “by publishing that news in the newspaper, the respondents defamed the complainant before his colleagues, friends and family members”.
