LUCKNOW: Báhujan Samajwadi Party supremo has demanded strict action against all those found guilty in the Muzaffarpur and Deoria women‘s shelter home cases, saying that crime of such magnitude would not have been possible without government protection.
Saying that law and order had deteriorated under BJP governments across states, Mayawati said, “It is due to government apathy that such crimes against women were taking place in Bihar‘s and Deoria‘s women‘s shelter homes. This proves that there is absolute jungle raaj in BJP administered states. And along with law and order, women’s safety is not a priority for the BJP government,” she said.
Giving the example of an incident that took place in the state when BSP was in power, Mayawati said that a senior police official like the SSP was suspended after a woman was paraded naked in Allahabad’s Sudoor village and unless such strict action was taken, crimes against women would not end. “The government cannot hope to get away by lip service. It has to take the strongest action possible. Under BJP governments, most people believe themselves to be above the law. The government’s apathy towards women’s issues, among various other mattes of concern, is highly troubling and a cause of worry for the entire country,” she said.
