RAJKOT: A gang of 10 robbers on their way to looting a petrol pump near in of were arrested on Saturday. Police recovered a country made pistol worth Rs 10,000, nine live cartridges worth Rs 900, three knives, 17 cellphones and two bikes from the accused.
“We had a prior tip-off about the accused going on their way to carrying out a robbery at the petrol pump, following which we kept a watch at the toll booth and intercepted them,” said an official from Morbi police station. “The accused during their interrogation confessed to having been involved in 18 cases of robberies in the past two years,” said the official, adding that one of the bikes recovered from the accused was a stolen one.
Police identified the accused as Meru Pipalia, Prakash Pipalia and Shahejan Qazi, all residents of Hasanpar village of Wankaner taluka; Imran Bambhania, of Panchdwarka in Wankaner; Ajay Vadalia, of Pipalia village in Dhoraji taluka of Rajkot; Rasulsha Shahmadar, a resident of Morbi; Badshah Shahmadar, also from Morbi; Nitesh Panaria, of Maliasan village in Rajkot; Salimsha Diwan and Samirsha Diwan, both residents of Bhavaninagar in Halvad.
