JAIPUR: More than 24 hours after a businessman and a jeweller sustained bullet wounds, in separate cases of firing in Malviya Nagar and Shipra Path areas of the city, police are still groping in the dark and are yet to identify the shooters.
On Friday at 11pm, Suresh Goyal (50) a jeweller, was injured after two unidentified assailants shot at his leg, and fled with his scooter which contained ornaments worth several lakhs. “We are trying to identify the shooters based on the identification details provided by Goyal. We have also collected some evidence, based on which we are zeroing in on history-sheeters and suspects,” the official said.
In a similar incident, the police station is still hunting for the three persons named in the FIR by one Ashok Gupta (45), who was shot at from close range, by three assailants in Malviya Nagar sector 111, in the wee hours of Sunday.
While the police are treating it as a case of firing due to internal rifts, no arrests have been made as yet. “Three persons were named in the FIR. We suspect that the accused had hired gunmen to shoot Gupta to settle money-related disputes. We are investigating if it was done to terrify Gupta,” the official said.
The firings in prominent localities like Mansarover and Malviya Nagar, have triggered panic in the nearby areas. Police, however, have not been able to make any headway. Sources said that many new gangs have made their foray into the city. “Guns are now more readily available than ever before. We are collecting information on habitual offenders, history-sheeters and parole-jumpers who have been involved in the past, in such cases of ,” the official said.
Jaipur police have been facing criticism for failing to solve cases in time, for instance, the murder of , a builder, in March, and that of CA Amarchand Sharma, in July, remain unsolved. Both murders took place in Jhotwara police station area.
