THANE: The police is still to make headway in the high-level enquiry against officials from the police for “inept handling” of the assault and molestation complaint by 20-year-old Prachi , who was later killed by her former lover.
Police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar had ordered a probe last week, following allegations by Zade’s father that the Kapurbawdi police were “dismissive and casual” when his daughter approached them on June 11 after she was beaten up by her friend Akash Pawar.

Even though the Zade and her father pleaded with the Kapurbawdi police to register an FIR against Pawar, the cops had reportedly let him off with a non-cognisable complaint and admonitions.

On August 5, Pawar then waylaid the Zade near Louiswadi and pushed her from her scooty. He then stabbed her multiple times, leading to her death. He then fled the spot but was arrested two hours later from .

A senior police official said, “The inquiry against the police officials is underway and hopefully we will be able to conclude the probe by next week.”

“If the cops had acted on time and had taken the necessary action on Zade’s complaint then may be she would have been alive today,” said Vikas, the victim’s father.

Meanwhile, Pawar has been remanded to Thane Central jail.

Pawar had told the cops that he was enraged to see his former girlfriend Zade speak to another man on social media after their break-up. So, he decided to kill her.
