MUMBAI: A Nalasopara teenager was assaulted with leather belts allegedly by his girlfriend‘s father for “chatting with her” on . The 18-year-old collegian, Ashish (name changed), has been admitted to hospital. A case of rioting and causing hurt has been registered at Nalasopara police station.
Ashish had met Shikha (name changed) on Facebook two months ago. Both live in Nalasopara and their parents know each other. A month ago, they exchanged phone numbers and got chatting. Their friendship developed into love.

On Tuesday, around 4 pm when Ashish was in Bhayander, “Shikha (17) sent him a message” that she would meet him at Nalasopara railway station. Ashish arrived at Nalasopara around 9.45 pm and messaged Shikha who asked him to come near a bank in Nalasopara (west).

When he reached there, Shikha‘s father waiting for him. He, along with seven others, dragged him into a shop and thrashed him with belts. He told Ashish that he had seen their Whatsapp chats and had confiscated her phone. It was he who had sent him the message.

Shikha‘s dad then called Ashish‘s father and asked him to take his son away. Ashish‘s father told TOI that while he was unaware of his son‘s proximity to the girl, her dad should have spoken to him rather than beat up the boy. Ashish suffered massive bruises on his face and body. No arrest has been made.
