GURUGRAM: A 24-year-old woman was allegedly strangled by her partner in a slum in Nathupur village on Thursday. While the accused is absconding, two men who found the body and tried to dispose of it, apparently in panic, have been arrested.
The accused, identified as Sujon, was living with the woman, Mamni Kayal, in a slum near Bihari mandi. The two, originally from West Bengal, claimed to be husband and wife and shifted to a shanty in the slum around 10 days ago, police said.

Cops said Afshar Malita (55), who acted as the caretaker of the slum and collected rent from those living there, discovered Mamni‘s body in her shanty early on Friday morning . She had been strangled with a rope and Sujon was missing. Afshar panicked, and instead of informing police, phoned a relative, Saful (35). Saful immediately came to the slum in an autorickshaw. They went to Badshapur to bury the body in an isolated spot, but fearing discovery by passersby, dumped it in a pit.

Locals found the body and informed police. Investigations led cops to the caretaker and Saful, who were questioned and arrested. An FIR was registered against Sujon under Section 302 (murder) and against the duo under Section 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the IPC at DLF-3 police station the same day.

“When Mamni took the shanty on rent, she listed her sister‘s number. I called her up after I found the body on Friday morning, and she told me to simply bury it. I was afraid that I would be implicated in the murder, so I dumped the body with the help of a relative. I am not aware about Sujon‘s whereabouts,” Afshar told police.

Afshar and Saful were produced in a city court on Saturday, which sent them to two days‘ police remand. Interestingly, Mamni‘s family has refused to file a complaint. “We ed Mamni‘s sister, but she said she didn‘t want an investigation into the m urder,” said , ACP (DLF).
