KANPUR: A man chopped off his wife’s in Colonelganj locality of Kanpur late on Friday night after she objected to his drinking habit. The woman has been admitted to the city’s LLR Hospital, while the Colnelganj police has booked the accused husband who is absconding.
The police have identified the accused as Shakil Ahmad, 40, who does odd jobs to sustain a family of six, including four children. Police said that Shakil is addicted to drugs and liquor to which Gudia objected.
“On Friday night he chopped off the tongue of his wife after having a heated argument with her over his drinking habit,” said SHO Colonelganj Atul Srivastava.
“After cutting her tongue with , Shakil fled from the scene and is absconding. We have registered an FIR against him on the basis of a complaint moved by the couple’s younger daughter. The woman is undergoing treatment a LLR Hospital,” he added.
