LUDHIANA: In an embarrassment for the state taxation department, a group of city businessmen on Friday demanded that their numbers be transferred to the central from state taxation department because they are not getting . This high-voltage drama took place in the meeting of city businessmen with Yogendra Garg, additional director (ADG) GST in which several other high officials of both central and state taxation departments including Central GST commissioner, Ludhiana Ashutosh Baranwal and state taxation department’s deputy excise and taxation commissioner (DETC) too were present.
Giving more information, , president of Punjab Dyers Association said, “Today a meeting was conducted at the GST commissionerate Rishi Nagar which was presided over by one of the top most officer of central government ADG, GST Yogendra Garg. The main motive of the meeting was to know the problems being faced by the textile industry and during the meeting we raised the issue of delay in processing of GST refunds because of which we are facing financial problems and not being able to do our businesses normally.” Jindal also added, “We were apprised by ADG that the centre government is expediting GST refunds on timely basis and the assesses registered with the centre’s GST commissionerate are getting their refunds on time and there are no refunds pending. After which we pleaded in front of him to transfer our GST numbers from state taxation department to central GST commissionerate so that we can get refunds easily. DETC Pawan Garg was also present in the meeting but he was not able to give any satisfactory reply on the issue of pending GST refunds.”
However, speaking to TOI, Pawan Garg said, “GST refunds are being processed regularly by the state taxation department and till date no businessman came to me to complain about not receiving GST refunds. In case any one is experiencing such problems he should come to me and I will get the matter solved on the spot.”
