Kalyan: Two men, who tried to rob a jeweller in Dombivli after firing in the air, were caught, beaten up and handed over to the police by locals after the victim raised an alarm. Tilak Nagar police are yet to find the country-made pistol the duo used and suspect there was a third accused who fled the spot.
The incident took place on Thursday night at Gaondevi in Dombivli (E). The accused have been identified as Vikas Singh (20) and Gopal Yadav (23), residents of Jaunpur in , who have been living in Thane.

Jeweller Ramesh and his employee Pradeep Jain were on their way home when the accused accosted them. The duo tried to snatch a bag loaded with cash from Jain. When he resisted, one of the accused brandished a pistol and fired in the air. Jain handed over the bag, but as soon as the accused began to flee, Nahar raised an alarm. Locals caught hold of the robbers, assaulted them and informed the police. Jain suffered injuries on his head. ACP Ravindra Wadekar said, “Singh is involved in three robbery attempts in Jaunpur. We are gathering details from our UP counterparts.‘‘
