CHANDIGARH: The head priest of a in and his wife allegedly committed suicide on Sunday by jumping into a canal.
Jaswinder Singh, who was the head priest of a gurdwara in Nadana village, had in the last phone call made to his father blamed four money-lenders for him and his wife, Naveet Kaur, taking the extreme step, Jaswinder‘s brother has alleged in his complaint to the police.
The bodies were found near bridge, after Jaswinder‘s family sounded the police and the canal was searched. The brother, Kanwaljit, alleged that four residents of their village had been harassing Jaswinder over the repayment of a Rs 20-lakh loan.
Acting on the complaint, police have booked the four men for abetment to , said Janak Raj, the SHO of Taraori police station. “We are verifying the allegations,” he said. Kanwaljit alleged that the before committing suicide, Jaswinder had called his father and informed him about his plans. He had asked his father to take care of the couple‘s children.
Soon after getting the call, the family had rushed to the canal. It found the motorcycle, but the couple was missing. They then informed the cops, and teh bodies were foun near Kaithal bridge. The bodies have been handed over to the families after the post-mortem.
