PATIALA: A 17-year-old state-level player was found dead in front of his house under mysterious circumstances on Monday. The deceased identified as Sukhbir Singh was found lying at the gate of his house with froth coming out of his mouth.
The mother of the deceased hinted towards her only son being a drug addict. However, police claimed that the boy committed suicide after failing in his exams.
Reports of the post-mortem of the body is awaited. While interrogation, villagers raised their doubts on the mother who according to them has murdered her son. No arrests have been made so far. Police have initiated the probe into the case.
“Initially it looks that the deceased Sukhbir, who hails from Chintawala village of Nabha, had committed suicide as he failed in Maths and Science exams of Class X and had reappeared for both the exams. However, he failed once again even after reappearing for the same. He was stressed about the upcoming results. We have got conducted the post-mortem and reports are yet to be received,” said the investigating officer in the case.
He added that a case under Section 174 of CrPC has been registered at Sadar Nabha police station. The police added that they are also probing into the allegations levelled by the villagers against the mother.
According to the villagers, Sukhbir has been participating in U-17 games organised by the education department and had played at the state level while he was again scheduled for a state-level event of kabaddi.
Bhupinder Singh, a distant relative of the deceased demanded that a fair probe should be done into the matter as it was a clear murder. He said Sukhbir had gone missing on Sunday evening but his mother did not report about the matter to anyone. The very next morning, he was found in a bizarre condition at the gate which raised suspicions.
