VARANASI: With the exchange of MoU between the Union ministries of human resource development (HRD) and health and family welfare on Saturday, the Institute of Medical Sciences, (IMS-BHU) moved a step forward to get all facilities and funds similar to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
The MoU was exchanged for the upgradation of IMS-BHU to an AIIMS-like institution at a function held at BHU in the presence of Union cabinet ministers and J P Nadda among others.

Nadda said that the term AIIMS-like institution has been used to pave the path for IMS to avail the facilities and funds similar to AIIMS. “IMS as well as its Sir Sunderlal Hospital is under the purview of HRD ministry governed by BHU Act, while is governed under AIIMS Act under the Union ministry of health and family welfare. The use of term AIIMS-like institution for IMS would find solution of the technicalities of the two ministries,” he said.

Nadda said his ministry would provide all infrastructure support, while support from HRD ministry would be as per health ministry norms. “The funds would be enhanced and the number of faculty and students will be increased and new infrastructure will be developed,” he said.
