RAJKOT: A and her aide were arrested on Saturday for allegedly stealing cash and valuables, , from a flat in Sardarbag on

Police arrested Shital Ribadia (25) and Rajesh Bambhania (38) from Soni Bazaar, following a tip-off that they were there to sell off the stolen jewellery.

Police had already booked Shital for the alleged theft on the complaint of Rajesh Somaiya (59) who had alleged that Shital, whom he had employed as a housemaid four years ago at his residence in Raghukul Apartment, had made a duplicate key to the safe of his cupboard. She had stolen gold and silver jewellery as well as cash, all worth Rs 12.95 lakh, in the period of four years.

“After committing the crime, Shital had gone absconding. As she remained untraceable with her cellphone switched off, we checked her Facebook account with the help of cybercell officials. Cross checking her list of Facebook friends, we found that Bambhania from Porbandar had offered her help to dispose off the stolen booty,” said inspector H M Gadhvi of Rajkot detection of crime branch.

“Then we received a tip-off that both Shital and Bambhania were scheduled to visit Soni Bazaar to sell off the stolen jewellery. Acting on the information, we kept a watch there and nabbed them when they were spotted there,” added Gadhvi.

During interrogation, Shital broke down before the cops and confessed to having committed the crime.

In his complaint, Somaiya alleged that Shital had committed the thefts using the duplicate key from time to time whenever Somaiya and his family members had gone out of station.
