Coimbatore: , who was facing two murder cases and several robbery cases, was stabbed to death on Saturday at Somasundara Mill Road here.
Police identified the victim as K Saravanan, a native of Kanuvai. “He had surrendered to Race Course police in 2004 after committing two murders. He later murdered his own brother and tried to make it look like an accident. But Sulur police arrested him along with his accomplices in 2008. Saravanan was also facing another murder case in Ramanathapuram police limit. He was facing more than 10 robbery cases, kidnapping and attention diversion cases in the city,” a police officer said.
Saravanan had come out of the Coimbatore Central Prison on bail a few months ago. “He used to borrow money from his friend ‘Kung Fu’ Arumugam, a moneylender, but refused to repay. So Arumugam had stopped to give him more money. Saravanan had threatened Arumugam with dire consequences for not providing money. Following the threat, Arumugam decided to kill him. On Saturday around 6.30am, Arumugam intercepted Saravanan, who was heading towards his home town on his motorcycle on Somasundara Mill Road. Saravanan left the motorcycle behind and tried to escape from the spot. However, Arumugam stabbed him to death. Saravanan was found dead in a pool of blood with injuries on his abdomen, chest and hip,” the officer told TOI.
After the deed, Arumugam ed some police officers and confessed to the crime. He then tried to surrender before a court, not being aware that it was a holiday. Meanwhile, Kattoor police secured him on Saturday afternoon.
