THANE: A has been convicted and sentenced to four years rigorous imprisonment by the district court for molesting, assaulting and intimidating a minor girl in 2014.
The accused, Samir Naik, was found guilty and the judge, P P Jadhav sentenced him under various sections of the .

Public prosecutor V G Kadu told the court that the victim who was then 16 years old was residing near Lokamanya Nagar area. The girl’s family had some tiff over a petty issue with a family residing in the same area. The family then hired Naik to teach the girl’s family a lesson. Naik used to abuse the girl’s family members and also eve-tease the minor and her elder sister.

In June 2014, Naik visited the victim’s house and picked up a fight with them. He then started beating up the victim’s mother. When the victim went to her mother’s rescue, the accused beat her up and molested her. The girl’s mother then raised an alarm, after which some neighbours came to their rescue, the prosecutor told the court.

However, the defence counsel denied all the allegations and told the court that the accused was innocent and he has just been made a target because of his association with a political party.

The prosecution demanded stern action as the accused already had a past criminal record.

After hearing both sides, the judge said, “The prosecution has proved the case beyond reasonable doubts. As already mentioned there are as many as seven crimes registered against the accused in Vartak Nagar police station. It shows the criminal background of the accused. Considering all the facts on record the accused is guilty under Sections 354 (molestation), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the IPC and under various sections of the POCSO Act.
