Hi-tech ambulances save over 1,000 critically injured

JAIPUR: More than 1,000 patients have benefited from state’s fleet of 22 ambulances equipped with ventilators and defibrillators which are lifesaving equipment. These ambulances are being used for transporting critical patients from one hospital to another for better healthcare.

These 22 government ambulances, having (ALS) systems, were launched in November with an aim to provide safer transportation of patients referred to higher centres. The ambulances are positioned at district hospitals.

It is quite risky to transport critical patients in ambulances with basic life support equipment. With ambulances with ALS, the transportation of patients is now safer. In the ALS, the health department has positioned two drivers and two nursing staff, which are trained in critical .

National health mission (NHM) mission director (state) Navin Jain said that attendants of a patient can use the with ALS on getting nod of incharge of the district hospital for transportation of patients to higher centres such as hospitals attached to government medical colleges for better healthcare facilities.

According to health department’s report issued in August, there are more than 1,300 ambulances, including Janani Express 104 service and 108 emergency response service, which has covered more than 91 lakh kilometres in April, May, June and July.

Health department officials claimed that 2.76 lakhs trips have been made by the ambulances from April to July. There are 587 Janani Express, which provide transportation facilities to pregnant women and also to children under one year covering 33 kilometers on an average daily.

Health department claimed that in the past four months, 62,000 people were brought to hospitals from their houses while 22,000 patients used the facility for transportation from hospitals to their houses.

Besides, in past four months, 108 emergency response service ambulances, which are 730 in numbers, covered 92 lakh kilometers and provided transportation facilities to 1.47 lakh patients.
