If you are not happy with the way your eyebrows look and want to make them look perfect, – the latest beauty trend – may just be what you’re looking for. Also known as embroidery, microstroking, feather touch and hair-like strokes, it is a form of permanent make-up that is used to partially or fully camouflage missing eyebrow hair with the appearance of simulated hair using fine deposits of cosmetic tattoo pigments.
Nothing permanent about this tattoo
With no surgical procedure involved, microblading is actually much like a tattoo. Cosmetologist Dr Mohan Thomas, says, “It is a tattoo, which will fade depending on the pigment used, the environment and skincare products used. Although semi-permanent, it lasts between six and 18 months if proper aftercare instructions are followed.”
Strokes of change
It is perfect for those who want to fully reconstruct, define, and cover gaps or fill-in over plucked brows non-surgically. An extremely meticulous process, it takes around two hours to complete. Each microblading stroke is applied individually, allowing the control of the shape, colour and density of the completed eyebrows. Speaking about how it is done, Dr Thomas says, “The treatment starts with marking the desired shape of the eyebrow. The next step includes choosing a colour accordance to hair colour and skin tone. Individual tattoo strokes or feathers are made in the area to plot the shape and style requested.”
Adds Dr Batul Patel, dermatologist, “We use a super-fine pen with 12 to 15 microblades for depositing ink in the form of hair strokes. This gives very fine, natural-looking shaped eyebrows. The results last for a year or two after which the pigments fade, leaving your natural eyebrows exactly as they were before. In case for some reason you want to remove your microbladed eyebrows, a great option would be to go for an eyebrow tattoo removal treatment done by a dermatologist.”
