Gujjar gang sharpshooter, aide held near Subhash Chowk

GURUGRAM: A sharp shooter of and his associate were arrested by the special task force (STF) on Friday night after a brief encounter near Subhash Chowk.

Moninder, also known as Kallu and Monu, who was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, was wanted in at least 17 cases in the city, including the 2015 murder of Raju Shetty, an associate of late gangster Sandeep Gadoli.

Kallu had been on the run after murdering a tent businessman in Islampur on August 1. Four days later, he also tried to murder his uncle in Tigra village on August 5. Kallu’s associate alias Bachhi, a resident of Palwal, was arrested with him on Friday. A team, led by inspector , had planned a raid following a tip-off that Kallu was in his village, Tigra. However, Kallu allegedly got wind of it and fled.

“Before we could reach, he had left his house, along with Bachhi, on a twowheeler,” said DIG STF Satheesh Balan. The policemen then tried to intercept him near Subhash Chowk. Kallu spotted the STF team waiting for him near Subhash Chowk and opened fire. “In retaliation, the STF team also opened fire. One of the bullets hit Kallu’s right leg and he fell to the ground,” said Balan, adding that Kallu was arrested and taken to the Civil hospital for treatment. From there, he was referred to Safdarjung Hospital.

Kallu and Bachhi were booked under IPC sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assaults), 332 (voluntarily causes hurt), 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) at the Sadar police station. Balan said that Kallu had met Bachhi inside the Bhondsi jail.

“After coming out of jail, they got together and killed Tony (the tent businessman) near his house in Islampur village on August 1,” said Balan.

The contract for Tony’s murder was given over a property dispute by his nephew Vicky. Four days later, the duo tried to murder Kallu’s uncle, Tej pal Singh (45), as he was buying vegetables from a market behind Lotus Valley School in Tigra village. One bullet missed Tejpal and hit the right leg of a vegetable seller. Tejpal tried to run away but the two men chased him down and fired two shots – one bullet brushed past Singh’s ear and another hit his neck, making him fall to the ground before the duo fled.

Balan said that the two were in the city on Friday to commit some other crime.

According to the STF officers, Kallu is a contract killer who committed murders and robberies on the directions of gangster Binder Gujjar. On one such job, he killed Raju Shetty in Sector 5 in 2015.

As many as 17 cases are registered against Kallu at different police stations, out of which 10 are registered at the Sadar police station.
