COIMBATORE: A 36-year-old Kuniyamuthur resident, who consumed along with her husband and two minor daughters after suffering huge losses in business, died at the and Hospital (CMCH) on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as J Sasikala of Iyappan Nagar at Narasimmapuram, Kuniyamuthur. Her husband A Janakiraman and two daughters are undergoing treatment at CMCH.

Janakiraman, a tailor hailing from Coonoor, had previously settled at Saibaba Colony in the city along with the family, police sources said. “Sasikala was running a unit manufacturing women’s innerwear. The couple had borrowed crores of rupees for the business. The family had shifted to Kuniyamuthur three months ago. But the business continued to be in loss and they found it difficult to repay the loans,” a police officer said.

Fed up with the situation, the family decided to commit suicide. “On Thursday night, after having dinner, all of them consumed milk laced with pesticides. But they raised an alarm after some time. Their neighbours rushed to the place and took them to a private hospital at Kuniyamuthur. However, Sasikala was not responding to the treatment. She was referred to CMCH, where doctors declared her as brought dead,” the officer told TOI.

Kuniyamuthur police have registered a case under Section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of the and 174 CrPC. Further investigation is on.
