JAIPUR: A weekend picnic turned tragic for families of four youths who drowned in a pond in on Saturday.
According to Kotwali police station, the victims have been identified as (18), (18), Asad (18) and Faizal (18), all residents of Ghat Gate area of the city.
They had gone to Padam Talan pond near to take a bath. They drowned in the pond as none of them knew swimming. “They had come with 50 other people for the picnic. After having food and visiting a local shrine, the four of them entered the pond to take a bath but drowned,” an official told TOI.
‘They didn’t know pond was so deep’
Police said that pond was filled with water due to recent monsoon rains. “They tried to save themselves but in vain. The families were at a different spot and found their sons had gone . They searched for them in several places near the fort but did not get any clue,” the official said, adding that some people near the temple informed the police about the incident and floating bodies.
“The pond is very deep, but many people don’t know about it and jump into it assuming it to be shallow. The four didn’t know about the depth and died while trying to save themselves,” the official said. The bodies were fished out and taken to a hospital where the doctors declared them dead on arrival.
