KANPUR: District magistrate of Kanpur Nagar Vijay Vishwas Pant on Friday directed all the government departments to hoist the at the given time at government offices and lower it in the evening with full honour on August 15 and also avoid use of polythene.
At a meeting held here at the Collectorate auditorium for preparation of Independence Day, he specifically directed that “the national flag should be hoisted according to norms and all government offices shall avoid using polythene on that day”.

He directed that from August 15, the second phase of polythene-free Kanpur would begin in which thermocol and plastic goods would be prohibited.

Kanpur had to plant 15,73,250 saplings by August 15 under a special campaign of plantation of nine crore saplings in the state, therefore nodal officers and forest department should prepare themselves as state cabinet minister would participate in plantation functions in the city on that day, he informed.

He directed that first three student winners of debate, drawing competition and slogan competition would be felicitated by Mahana. All the three competitions were organized against the use of polythene.

The district magistrate also directed to depute a magistrate to bring freedom fighters and their dependants to the flag-hoisting function at Collectorate on August 15.

A freedom fighter, who participated in the meeting, said that families of freedom fighters would plant saplings at 20 places in the city from August 19 to August 25 and the saplings would be named after martyrs.
