The protesters including villagers, members from various organisations holding banners staged dharna on the highway and blocked the traffic for an hour by burning tyres.

The protesters said that the elephants from the nearby forest areas regularly stray into the villages and destroy the crops. Due to regular raids by the herds of elephants, villagers are finding it difficult to survive.

As there is regular man-animal conflict in the region from past few years, they are also afraid of sending their children to school. The villagers demanded permanent solution to the elephant menace. The protesters demanded relocation of elephants from the area.

The villagers said that the protest is to bring the problem into the notice of the state government. Local business establishments and shops also remained closed in support of the protest.
