Ex-PM Vajpayee’s life sketch to be added in school textbooks

JAIPUR: State education minister Vasudev Devnani has asserted to include a biography of former Prime Minister in a school textbook. The biography will be included under the policy of adding stories or work of national heroes to evoke nationalism among students.

“Vajpayee’s statesmanship has no parallel in the modern India. His life sketch has the immense potential to transform and inspire the life of youths. By adding his life sketch, we would like give a tribute to the departed soul,” said Devnani.

The minister has not yet decided that the chapter on Vajpayee to be added in which standard but he is clear that life sketch to have components like childhood, emergency, nuclear test, and global impact.

State education department has revised the entire syllabus in 2015-16 by adding several bios of national heroes including the RSS ideologue Veer Sawarkar, founding father of BJP Deen Dayal Upadhyaya etc. Three paragraphs on Vajpayee as a prime minister was added in the class XI textbook by the government in 2015-16.

Other than a life sketch, books authored by Vajpayee will also be included in the public libraries. Devnani said that levy fund which is a discretionary fund under the education minister will be used to purchase books authored by the former prime minister. “If you have to understand the idea of Vajpayeeji’s you have to read his poems. Soon I will shortlist the books,” said Devnani.
