THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Doctor‘s certificate will not be considered for certifying the age of a beneficiary applying for welfare anymore. School certificates or Aadhar should be used to determine the age of beneficiary, as per the new directions from department for disbursal of welfare pension.
Doctor‘s certificate can be used only by SC beneficiaries, bed-ridden beneficiaries and those above 80 years. The finance department has introduced new measures in the wake of findings that relatives of deceased beneficiaries and remarried beneficiaries had availed welfare pension causing financial loss to state government. The corporation secretaries have also been directed to use Anganwadi or Asha workers to collect data on deceased beneficiaries and those widows who receive widow pension and then remarry.
The state government which has recently lifted the restriction on processing new applications for welfare pensions in the state had earlier introduced a few new conditions for processing fresh applications. Persons residing in houses above 1200 sq.ft and those own vehicles with engine capacity of more than 1000 cc (except taxi) shall not be eligible for social welfare pension. New applicants will be eligible for only one pension; either welfare board pension or social welfare pension. Those receiving disability pension shall be eligible for another pension at a rate of Rs 600. Those who have retired from public sector enterprises and receive pension as per the scheme of the enterprise cannot apply for social welfare pension.
