BENGALURU: Hours after her declined to marry her, a 21-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself from a tree with her dupatta in late Saturday night.
Cubbon Park police arrested Naresh, a resident of , for allegedly abetting , a resident of Dsouza Layout and from Nepal, to take the extreme step.
Preliminary probe revealed Santoshi, daughter of security guard Kabiraj Thapa, and Naresh worked in a spa. The youngsters fell in love but were sacked from the job after their employer took note of their relationship.
Santoshi and Naresh continued their relationship, but trouble arose when she insisted that they get married. Naresh told her recently that he can’t marry her as his family members were against it.
“Naresh and Santoshi met in Cubbon Park on Saturday and had a heated argument over marriage. She rushed to her residence and demanded her father’s help to marry Naresh. Kabiraj threw up his hands and told his daughter that he was helpless. He told his daughter that she was free to do whatever she could,” a police officer said.
Cubbon Park cops said Santoshi left her home late in the night and reached Cubbon Park. She used her dupatta as a noose and hanged herself from a tree near Siddalingaiah Circle. The incident came to light around 6am when morning walkers noticed her body and alerted police.
The body was shifted to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital and handed over to family members after postmortem. Police have registered a case of suicide abetment against Naresh based on a complaint filed by her father Kabiraj. Further probe is under way.
