MANGALURU: The VI additional district and sessions court on Saturday announced life imprisonment to a man and his girlfriend on charges of killing the woman‘s ex-boyfriend.
Judge also slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 each on both the convicts. On failure of payment, they will be bound to further serve two months of simple imprisonment.
Of the total Rs 50,000, Rs 40,000 will be handed over to the victim‘s father.
The district legal services authority is directed to pay compensation as per the Compensation Scheme.
The court had on Thursday held accused Gaviranga alias Harish guilty under IPC Section 302 (murder) and accused two Priscilla guilty under IPC Section 120(B) (criminal conspiracy) read with IPC Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention), in the murder of Avinash. Avinash, 21, and Sushma, then 22, were in a relationship. Sushma, a resident of in Mulki, was employed at a call centre at Morgan‘s Gate here. Harish, 26, was working as a cab driver for the same company. Over a period of time, Sushma developed proximity with Harish.
After Avinash learnt about their affair, a drama unfurled at the woman‘s office premises, after which she and Harish decided to murder Avinash.
Early on April 1, 2014, Harish, who was driving a Tata Sumo, knocked down motorcycle-borne Avinash, which killed him.
