MANGALURU: JD(S) MLC S L touched a raw nerve of the , holding the ruling coalition partner‘s policy of appeasement and neglect of Hindus as the main reason for its electoral debacle in the coast and Malnad region.
The brutal assessment brought forth a strong retort from minister U T Khader, who said the Congress swears by the Constitution authored by B R Ambedkar and takes all sections together.

Citing his win in the recent biennial election to the legislative council as an example of JD(S) taking all stakeholders into confidence irrespective of their caste, creed or religion, Bhoje Gowda said the Congress must introspect on the reasons for its poll loss.

“I have instructed my party rank and file to take Hindus into confidence, while at the same time assuring that the minorities are not left out from the development process,” he said.

Noting that Congress polarized the society in the run up to the 2018 assembly polls, bringing all Hindus together, Bhoje Gowda asked: “Didn‘t Hindus vote for the Congress in 2013? What happened to those () votes?”

Bhoje Gowda said that while the Congress had none too good performance in the council elections, “enlightened voters” understood the inclusive policy of JD(S), helping it breach the BJP‘s fortress in the South-West Teachers‘ constituency.

Reminding BJP that both Hindus and are not contracted to it, the MLC said that JD(S) has not surrendered to anyone and will continue to work for development of all.

Khader said that while JD(S) has every right to organize the party, it is none of the coalition partner‘s business to poke its nose in the internal affairs of the Congress party.

“I am surprised at Bhoje Gowda‘s statement and will talk to him about it,” Khader told STOI. “The Congress has always been inclusive in its approach and does not discriminate among any section of society. We don‘t believe in the politics of appeasement,” he added.
