Chinese hacks hit Malaysia as it reviews OBOR

KUALA LUMPUR: state-sponsored hackers might be targeting companies and state agencies in as it looks to review several major projects linked to China’s Belt and Road Initiative, cybersecurity firm FireEye Inc said on Wednesday.

PM Mahathir will be in China on Friday seeking to renegotiate and possibly cancel billions of dollars worth of Chinese-invested projects. FireEye said China-based groups sought to gain intelligence on the future of BRI projects.

“Malaysia is looking… like a target of Chinese statesponsored cyber activity,” FireEye’s head of global intelligence operations, Sandra Joyce, said.
