GURUGRAM: Sonal Kataria, 23, who works as the branch in-charge of a gold firm in Gurugram, showed great presence of mind and extraordinary courage when she pressed the alarm button and shouted for help during a dacoity attempt in her office.
The six dacoits who had broke into the office threatened her and even opened fire before fleeing. However, the bullet missed Kataria.
Her courage saved the lives of six employees who were present in the central room of the office. The remaining employees had taken refuge in other rooms. Kataria was conferred the bravery by urban local bodies minister Kavita Jain at an event organised on the occasion of in Gurugram on Wednesday. However, she has now expressed her disappointment with the for allegedly not allowing her to take leaves after the traumatic incident and is likely to soon.
The regional head of the company told TOI that he had given an appreciation certificate to Kataria and she might even be promoted in the near future. He did not comment on her allegations.
Kataria, who is the youngest of six siblings, said, “I risked my life to save the company’s money and the lives of the employees. But my organisation ignored treated me badly. I was not given even one off day after the incident though I was undergoing severe trauma and asked for leaves. I was offered Rs 8000 for my bravery but money is not everything.”
She also complained that in the past, she had written to the company against one of her seniors who had been misbehaving with her frequently but he was merely transferred to another branch. Additionally, she blamed the organisation for being baised against employees on regional grounds. She said that she had lost the inclination to work with the company any longer.
