B‘luru worse than Delhi in pollution levels

BENGALURU: is no more the worry of national capital New Delhi; Garden City Bengaluru tops the list of six major polluting cities in India, says a study. The contributing factors: increased industrial activity on the outskirts of the city and use of a high number of diesel generator sets.

The data released recently by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) says Bengaluru recorded the second-worst pollution due to road dust and vehicle emissions, beating the highly polluted Delhi. Pune tops the list in this category.

Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) chairman Lakshman doubted the claim, saying Bengaluru does not have so many polluting industries. “I don’t think these are accurate numbers. I’ll verify the numbers,” Lakshman said.
