AHMEDABAD: Even though Ahmedabad scored better than in 2017, the city’s railway station has slipped from seventh to 17th position among A1 stations in the Rail Swachh Bharat 2018 survey of the ministry of railways, which have an annual passenger revenue of greater than Rs 50 crore per annum.
The city station in 2017 scored 817.9 points out of 1,000, and in 2018 it increased to 886.22. However, despite the higher score Ahmedabad station has slipped in the rankings. Among other stations in , Vadodara ranked 15th (25 in 2017), Surat 24th (26 in 2017) and Rajkot 50th (42 in 2017).
According to the survey report, the cleanliness ranking, compiled by the Quality Council of India, was started in 2016. The parameters for the survey were ‘evaluation of the process of cleanliness in the parking area, main entry area, main platform and waiting room; direct observation by QCI assessors and passenger feedback, with each parameter carrying 33.33% weight.
According to the survey, Ahmedabad scored 315.9 in passenger feedback in 2017, it scored 310.78 this year. The survey also considered if there was a penalty for spitting on the platform, among other parameters. Divisional railway manager Dinesh Kumar said, “It is not that we have done badly. We have a better score than last year. The main platform does not have good flooring and we were aware of this. Tenders for changing the flooring have been floated. We are in the process of changing the flooring on each platform.”
