After humid spell, heavy rains to return next week

LUCKNOW: Scanty rainfall and rise in temperatures over the past two days made weather sultry on Friday. Met officials said that rainfall activity is expected to revive from Saturday. One or two showers might occur during the day. Heavy rains might lash the city on Monday and Tuesday.

Due to lack of rain, the maximum temperature on Friday rose to 34.2 degrees Celsius, a degree above normal. Minimum temperature also went up to 27.2 degrees Celsius, a degree above normal. High relative humidity-—between 70% and 89%— along with high temperatures made conditions sultry.

Met officials said that weather systems which caused rains last had fizzled out. However, conditions are expected to become favourable for revival of rain in the coming days. While one or two showers are expected on Saturday and Sunday, rainfall activity would increase on Monday and Tuesday.

On Saturday and Sunday, the sky is expected to be partly cloudy with possibility of rainfall but by and large, the weather will remain sultry.

Though arrived late this year in the city and rainfall was scanty in the first half of July, intermittent moderate to heavy rains from July 25 till August 6 have compensated for the deficit.
