After dad slaps her in college canteen, 15-year-old ends life

PATIALA: A 15-year-old Class XI student has allegedly committed suicide after her father slapped her in front of her friends and classmates in a canteen of a college for skipping classes. The incident took place on August 14 but came to light on Monday, when the Samana-based public college authorities lodged a complaint with the police about the student, Komalpreet Kaur, being absent for the last six days.
On August 14, the principal informed the girl‘s father, Karamjit Singh of Dhanetha village, that she was not attending classes regularly.

“He informed the principal that he himself drops her and it was not possible that she was missing classes. When he found her in the college canteen, he got angry and slapped her numerous times. He then took Komalpreet to the principal and asked her to apologize. The girl felt humiliated and when she found herself alone in the house in the evening, she hanged herself from a ceiling fan. The girl‘s father was at work, her mother had gone out to buy milk and her brother, a Class IX student, and had gone out for tuition,” said investigating officer Chajju Ram.

“The post-mortem was not conducted as police were not informed about the incident. We have registered a case of abetment to suicide and causing disappearance of evidence against Karamjit Singh, who had given all his two acres of agricultural land on contract and was working as a motor mechanic,” a police official said.
