RAJKOT: At least 46 women from countries like , and Laos were for violation of visa rules on Monday. These women, who had come to Rajkot on tourist and business visa, were found to be working illegally at nearly a dozen spas in the city.

Police said that of the 46, seven were found to have been transwomen, or men who had undergone a sex change operation. They were found to working as women in spas, police added. Thirty-seven of those detained were from Thailand, five from Laos, three from Kyrgyzstan and one from Russia.

These women were detained after the city police raided 40 spa centres operating in different part of the city on August 5. These foreigners were found working in about a dozen spas.

Rajkot police commissioner Manoj Agrawal said the women were sent to Ahmedabad by bus and will be deported to their respective countries.

“I also requested the ministry of external affairs to blacklist these women, as they have violated visa rules. They came to India on tourist and business visas, which do not permit them to work in India,” Agrawal told mediapersons.

“We have not registered cases against the spa owners as this was their first offence. We warned them not to indulge in these activities in the future,” the police commissioner added. According to the rules, it is the duty of the spa owners to inform police before hiring foreign citizens and verify if they have work permits for India, Agrawal added.
