Manipal: A 30-year-old from , Sujatha, (name changed) was upon for a huge (tumour of the uterus), weighing 2.5 kg by a team of KMC, Manipal, doctors.
The team was led by Dr Muralidhar V Pai, prof and HoD, department of OBG, at the Kasturba Hospital, here recently.

Sujatha was referred to the department of OBG on August 6, after which she was diagnosed with a huge tumour of the uterus. The doctors did not consider removing the uterus, and instead decided to remove the tumour. Any delay in removing the tumour would have caused excessive bleeding, pain in the abdomen and could have even caused damage to the kidneys, due to pressure on the uterus. She would also not have been able to conceive.

Dr Pai and his team successfully removed only the fibroid, without removing the uterus, tubes or ovaries. The patient recovered quickly from the surgery, after which she was discharged. She is now doing well at home.
