GREATER NOIDA: An 11-month-old girl who had sneaked out of home and crawled up the stairs with her 5-year-old sister died after falling 10 floors through the gap between iron grilles in the railing at society in .
Aashwi had come for a vacation to her uncle’s place in block H of the housing society along with her parents and elder sister from . Elders in the house were talking among themselves in a room inside when the two sisters sneaked out of the house to go to the roof.

While her elder sister climbed up the stairs fast, Aashwi tried to crawl and slipped. She fell into basement, through the gap between iron grilles in the railing.

The girl was rushed to Kailash Hospital in Kasna, where she was declared dead on arrival. According to police, the girl’s parents refused to lodge a complaint. An autopsy was done and the body returned to the family. Aashwi’s parents have left with the body for Indore, where she will be cremated.

Aashwi’s uncle Nidhi Niket said he was in office when the accident took place. “I was in office when I got the news. My wife and sister-in-law were in the room when both the children were playing around. The accident happened in a matter of minutes. None in the family knew that the children had sneaked out of the house and climbed up the stairs.” Nidhi added.

The uncle said Aashwi had come to Noida only two days ago. “My brother had planned a small vacation and they were to return to Indore after two days. We are now taking the body of the girl to Indore, where she will be cremated,” he said.

Ashish Parashar, secretary of the apartment owners’ association, said: “As the apartment owners’ association of the society, we feel the need to take the responsibility for ensuring the security of our residents. We are planning to install nets in the spaces between the 10 towers of the society to ensure accidents like this never happen again,” Parashar said.
