RAJKOT: (RMC) on Saturday began a special demolition drive to clear the city road for smooth traffic movement. The civic body had issued notices to violators on Thursday. The officials on Saturday removed nearly 100 encroachment on various roads of city.

According to in-charge town planning officer M D Sagathia the demolition began from two major entry point to the city — Chowkdi which is entry point for those coming from Ahmedabad and Gondal road Chowkdi for those coming from .

RMC officials removed 90 small vendor outlet from roads and footpaths. They said that vendors on both the sides of the roads resulted in frequent traffic jams. Many of the customers of the vendors used to park vehicles on the road.

The officials also removed illegal portions of 28 shops that were encroaching the road. Some of the traders were using portion of the road outside their shops to showcase their goods.

The civic body will continue the drive on Sunday near shopping malls and theatres. From Monday, RMC plans to target hapless parking outside educational institutes, including private coaching classes.

Box: Sanitation inspector attacked with knife

Rajkot: A sanitation inspector of Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) was allegedly attacked by a sanitation worker, his wife and two other women on Saturday. According to the complaint lodged by RMC sanitation inspector, Mrugesh Vasava, of ward 16 in Bhaktinagar police station, one Manoj Kishor Zala, his wife and two other women attacked him with knife. He said that he was attacked because he had marked Manoj as absent in the attendance register after he did not turn up for work. Vasava sustained injury on right side of the head and is out of danger.
